Health insurance: Uptake, perception and its determinants among health care seekers at a tertiary care hospital in Lucknow, India

Health Insurance has come to the forefront of Public Policy with launch Ayushman Bharat. Government spending on health is dismal compared other countries, even within same income bracket, and insurance being proposed as way out. Although not a new concept, people are still unfamiliar it. Hence, present study was conducted assess utilization, awareness perception regarding policies in patients attending OPD at Tertiary Care Hospital. It cross-sectional carried out among outpatient department Hospital, Lucknow from October 2020 January 2021. Study participants were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaire. The data obtained analyzed SPSS version 26. Though majority (84.3%) had heard about existence policies, only one-third (33.6%) covered under policy. Inadequate knowledge benefits, low income, preference for investments, no felt need some barriers subscription. care seekers major roadblock government's ambitious project Bharat schemes. Emphasis should be given educating their rights benefits insurance.
